Guiding the Foundation

Founder / Board Chair

Jason Borges

Jason honorably retired from the U.S. Army in 2013 after 25 years of distinguished service. Enlisting in 1989 and selected for Special Forces in 1997, he served as a Green Beret with 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), holding key leadership roles and deploying worldwide in support of national security missions. After retiring, he continued serving as a U.S. government security consultant in Afghanistan and Iraq for eight more years. Inspired by Operator Syndrome by Dr. Chris Frueh and his own transition experience, Jason founded the Special Operations Adventure Foundation to help veterans rediscover purpose, healing, and connection through shared adventure.

President

Angel Molina

Angel, a native of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, is a former U.S. Navy SEAL with 35 years of combined military and government service. Enlisting in 1990, he built a distinguished career across elite Naval Special Warfare units, deploying globally in combat and high-threat environments and later serving as a senior contractor supporting Special Operations across the Iraq and Syria theater. Today, Angel remains dedicated to service through his active support of veteran-focused nonprofits, including the Special Operations Adventure Foundation. Driven by a passion to give back, he shares his experience and hard-earned lessons to mentor and support others on a personal, professional, and philanthropic level.

Running the mission

Volunteer Operations Manager

Christine Kathryn

Christine joined the Special Operations Adventure Foundation after witnessing firsthand the challenges many veterans and their families face while transitioning from military to civilian life. She wanted to be part of an organization creating meaningful connection and support during that transition. As SOAF's Volunteer Operations Manager, Christine brings together strategy, operations, fundraising, and creativity to help turn ideas into action. She supports organizational development, donor initiatives, retreat planning, and the systems needed to help SOAF grow and expand its impact. What excites her most is helping create memorable outdoor experiences that lead to something lasting: renewed purpose, meaningful relationships, and a growing brotherhood and sisterhood where Special Operations veterans know they have a community that understands them. Outside of SOAF, Christine is a curious and creative adventurer who loves exploring by two wheels, four wheels, or on foot. She's happiest discovering new places, listening to great music, creating beautiful things, and sharing deep conversations around a campfire or on the trail, especially in good company.

Outreach & Partnership Manager

Rene Steenvoorden

Rene joined the Special Operations Adventure Foundation driven by a strong motivation to support veterans, bringing together his extensive experience in partnership management with a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He believes deeply in nature's healing power and in how stepping outside your comfort zone alongside others builds lasting camaraderie. As SOAF's Partnerships Manager, Rene draws on his relationship-building experience and outdoor expertise to help grow SOAF's network and expand its impact. He supports partnership development, community outreach, and the connections that help SOAF reach and serve more veterans. Born and raised in the Netherlands, Rene moved to the US in 2015 and soon after picked up adventure motorcycling as one of his primary outdoor pursuits. He's also an avid hiker and trail runner, climbing Colorado peaks with his dogs. Outside of SOAF, he owns and operates Bivouac Coffee, a sustainability-focused coffee roastery.
